Gold and Carbon which we are made of comes from a star but not just any star a special star a second generation star. The first stars created from cosmic gases were made entirely of hydrogen. Through the process of fusion, new elements like oxygen and carbon were created. To produce elements heavier than iron, you needed more energy. That's where supernova's come in the most powerful source of energy known to us besides the infinite consciousness. 

Every atom you see came from a star,the star will fuse hydrogen to helium, when the star has used up all of its hydrogen it fuses helium into carbon the heaviest element the sun can fuse is carbon when the star runs out of helium it will die the big bang. Massive stars can produce heavier elements like Carbon is fused into Oxygen, Oxygen into Neon, Neon into Silicon, Silicon into Iron and all the other elements before Iron in between but those are the main ones, once the star starts producing Iron it goes super nova. All the other elements that are after Iron are formed in the super nova like Gold. 

The iron (Fe) and the gold (Au) and all the elements heavier than helium (He) were once within a star Billions of years ago when OUR star formed, the cloud of gas and dust that condensed had tiny amounts of gold (Au) and other heavy elements from previous generations of extinct stars and chances are OUR star is probably a binary star system as most are just because we cant see it doesn't mean there isnt one.
